Merle,

I also noticed the discrepancy in the age as did Jerry RUPKE. We have been
working on this for the past 5 years. I am inclined to learn toward the
census being correct as we don't know who gave the information for his
death, if it was copied correctly, or something else. Agree we do need to
see what we can learn from the headstone. I do know information can be
incorrect on the headstones. I was a cemetery caretaker for nearly 20 years
and found many errors on headstones.

Jerry RUPKE would be happy to send you a copy of the 1855 letter of Daniel
Stump (nephew of Benjamin) telling of his visit to "Uncle Benjamin"..

Ferne mentioned she has a History of Wells Co and Jerry saw a book on the
history of Wells Co in which he found a short discourse on Samuel C. Stump
serving as a minister of a Brethren Church, but apparently didn't get a copy
of it. Hope someone can find it for us? So many questions yet to be
answered.

Will start checking family census records of Henry and Margaret's to see if
any children show up that might belong to them.

Dorothy Petry
