I am *attempting* to write a short history about Ten Mile for my book. I
read Bell's work before but I need a new copy so thanks for posting this.
Please keep me in mind for questions about Ten Mile area. I am not an expert
but my intent is to keep increasing my knowledge about this church (and
daughter church).
Might you know more about the split that happened ca. 1880 when Highland
Brethren was formed from Ten Mile? I'm a bit confused.... First confusion: I
thought Highland Brethren was the Progressive branch???? But, Mabel Ross (late,
she was Rev. Idleman's daughter) wrote my grandmother with a correction to one
of the county histories. In Mrs. Ross's letter she said Highland Brethren
should not be considered a separate denomination; since congregants of Highland
had belonged to Ten Mile COB, the 2 churches were still the same faith. And
that Highland and 10 Mile still celebrate together sometimes. So I'm confused.
Have I misunderstood what Mrs. Ross was saying? Where/how does Highland
fit, besides the split-off in the 1880s? Should I be including Highland in my
brief write-up?
Does anyone know a contact in the Highland Brethren Church in Washington Co
PA ?
Any help appreciated.
Judy
