Dwayne,
Perhaps you are comparing different groups. After 1883 there were three
groups...(1) Old Order German Baptist (2) German Baptist (later in 1908 to
become Ch of the Brethern) were deemed Conservative (3) Brethren Church
(Ashland Brethern) deemed progressive.

The Conservative term was applied to compare Ch of the Brethren to the
Ashland Brethren who were considered progressive. I understand your confusion. Try
blocking out the Old Order from your thought process and compare only Ch of
the Brethren to Ashland Brethren. Does that make any sense?

For the record the term "Old Order" was an adjective to describe the group.
The offical name of the group to this day is "Old German Baptist Brethren
Church" as printed on the last page of each Vindicator...the monthly church organ.
