Dennis,

The Gish family was part of the so-called "Dutch Settlement" on Cypress Creek in northern Muhlenberg. It was the only settlement in Muhlenberg to survive to the Civil War and into the 1870s. See D.B. Eller's account in the BE p. 893.

Jane is right about his James R Gish being from Woodford Co., ILL. See the below article that was sent in before the other one.
I still don't know which congregation James was talking about in Muhlenburg Co., Ky
