Subject: Latest on The 2005 Broyles-East Tennessee Germanna Reunion
Date: Tue, 23 Aug 2005 00:50:28 -0400

Just a note to let everyone know the latest about the East Tennessee
Germanna/Broyles Reunion on 10 & 11 September.

We still having John Blankenbaker as a guest speaker, and Jim Albin
will have a multi-media presentation of the trips to Germany, to the
areas from which our Germanna ancestors came.

Now, news on the food situation for the Reunion.

1) One of our cousins, Kathy Broyles (maiden name), now owns the old
country store across the road from the church, and has turned it into
a quaint little restaurant/cafe. She will be serving breakfast on
Saturday from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM. So, anyone who arrives before
11:00 will be able to eat breakfast there. I advertised the Saturday
session as starting at Noon, but advised everyone to arrive earlier
so we could spend some time together before the "formal" parts of the
day. Ten AM won't be too early.

2) Another cousin, Connie Broyles (maiden name) and her husband
adopted a child from Russia about 4 years ago. The child now has
leukemia and the medical bills are unreal. The church and the
community are having a barbecue Saturday afternoon about 5:00, as a
fund raiser for Connie's child. The Barbecue will be free, with
donations accepted. We can finish up our Saturday trips and
sightseeing early enough to be back for the Barbecue.

3) The good thing about the barbecue is that I'm sure the entire
community will be there, and, remember, everyone in the community is
a Germanna descendant! So, you will get to meet even more "cousins".

4) I'm going to ask John and Jim to give their presentations after
the barbecue meal, around 6:00 PM. That will give us a full day for
Saturday.

5) Traditionally, Saturday has been the "Germanna" part of the 2-day
Reunion, and Sunday has been the BROYLES part. But, over the past
few years, it's really not been possible to separate the two. We get
many, many Germanna families represented on both days.

6) On Sunday, the day will start with church services at the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church (where we hold the Reunion). There
won't be a religious service, but there will be gospel singing with
all of us participating, and there will be a local gospel group
performing (they'll all be cousins too). Connie (same as 2 above)
and her son will also perform on piano. They are accomplished
musicians. After the events inside the church, we'll all adjourn to
the pavilion out back for a Sunday "Dinner On The Grounds". Everyone
will bring an entree of food. For those coming from out of the area,
don't worry about bringing anything -- there will be more than enough
for everyone, what with all the hundreds of locals bringing
food. Please plan to attend the Sunday session -- you'll meet even
hundreds more cousins.

8) Some time ago I asked for those of you who will be attending to
email me if there are any particular places you would like to
tour. (Still have heard from only a couple of you.) Last year we
visited the area where the YAGER families lived and are buried, and
also the original log home of one of the earliest YAGER settlers in
the area. We also visited the Horse Creek area, the area where most
of the WILHOIT/WILHITE, PATTON, & SEATON families resided, and some
of the Greene County BROYLES families, and related families
resided. We always visit Broylesville, of course, although the Inn
was destroyed by arson earlier this year. If you know where your
Germanna ancestors lived (from Census Records, Land Grants, Deeds,
etc.) let us know and we'll include those areas as well.

9) For those of you who haven't already let me know that you will be
attending, PLEASE email me and tell me you're coming. For those of
you who have not committed yet, try your best to get here. We need
more families represented. Sometimes I think half the people in the
country have ancestors who lived in East Tennessee, and it would be
nice if more of them could visit with us.

Guess I've bent your ears long enough. We're looking forward to
seeing all of you.

George W. Durman
