Hello All-
I have posted PDF files for 40 Civil War Pension Files of Greene Co., Tennessee
soldiers.
These files consist of more than 5,000 pages and contain a wealth of
information -
genealogical information, affidavits from neighbors and relatives, and accounts
of battles
and skirmishes, life as soldiers, protracted illnesses, escaping East Tennessee
to join the
Union ranks, and the hostilities endured at home in a region divided in
sentiments.
Because of the extreme size of these PDF files, I have also posted single-page
PDF files
for those of you with slower-speed internet connections.
I regret to say that I do not have access to any other Civil War Pension files
besides the
ones posted here.
In particular the pension files for James Haney, James H. Haney, Samuel C.
Haney, and
Isaac Seaton provide accounts of violence endured within the community.
More than half of these soldiers resided in the 1st and 22nd Civil Districts of
Greene
County, south of the Nolichuckey River in the southern and southeastern
portions of
the county.
