Hi Judy,

For views of Bristol after 1850, you can't do better than the Reece Winstone
books, as recommended by Dave. The ones covering the earliest years are
"Bristol's Earliest Photographs" and "Bristol in the 1850's".

For earlier views, I recommend "Bristol Before the Camera" by Sheena
Stoddard. It covers the watercolours and drawings in the Braikenridge
collection.

If you can get your hands on "Skelton's Antiquities of Bristol" at any kind
of reasonable price (like less than 100 pounds !), go for it.

And finally, I couldn't finish without recommending "The Bristol Avon" by
some unknown author called Josephine something. One day she might be quite
famous ;-)

Best wishes & good luck searching,

Mike Gould

I would appreciate any Bristol book recommendations (especially St Augustine
area) as my book shelves are sadly lacking in Bristol books.
