Hi Again Meryl

The first port of call would be to check for the marriage of her parents -
you might find that she was born before that and therefore registered under
the mother's maiden name.

In my experience this is the most frequent reason for failing to "find" a
birth registration, although not the only one.

Thanks Brad, as I said, I really don't think that the grey cells are working
today.
Can I also ask another probably blindingly obvious question?
If said child is not on FreeBMD, is there any profit in contacting the
office of the area in which she is said to be born?

Since it's age reached that's recorded, it can only be referring to
their last birthday.
