Hello Bernice,
Thank you for that interesting tidbit. Funnily enough, via my ERNLE and
LAMBE ancestry, I descend from the BUTTON family of Alton Priors, Wiltshire,
who are said to have derived their surname from Bitton, Glos. which they
held in the Middle Ages. Before that they seem to have been Welsh, or at
least so a rather elaborate and unbelievable Tudor Visitation pedigree says.
Many thanks,
Richard

Richard
You may be interested to know these names occur in Bitton, Glos records and
may or may not be connected to your Marman family.
John Marmyoun mentioned in the exchequer lay subsidy assessments for 1326
William Marmion witnessed a grant of land by Matthew de Button, son of Sir
John, in 1443
Hope this helps.
Bernice
