One thing to bear in mind is that mothr and dau may not have been in
the workhouse but in the workhouse infirmary which would have been the
only source of medical help available to many people.

One way to check if one or both of the daus survived is to have a look
on the 1851 census. You know one is on there but is the other one?
Is there a death registered for one between 1845 and 1851?

You may need to get the other birth certificate just to eliminate one dau.
