I want to thank everyone who helped me with my question.
In this family, I have very little information to go on and it's the
reason I'm grasping at straws.
The woman in question, Eliza Sophia JONES, was born in Bristol. I find
her in the 1861 census (a widow, surname SMART), with her 2 children
(Sophia Jones SMART, William Richard SMART) and her brother George JONES,
residing in Liverpool.
I can find her in the 1871 census, remarried to Thomas WORRALL, with a
new daughter, Sarah, her 2 children using her maiden name as their
surname and all residing in Anglesey, Wales.
By 1876, she is deceased.
I have found daughter Sophia Jones SMART's birth (1853 in Castle
Precincts) and baptism records (1855 in Liverpool). Both state father is
Robert Smart and mother is Eliza Sophia SMART formerly JONES.
I found son William Richard SMART's 1860 baptism in Liverpool (where he
was born) and parental names are the same. I think I found his 1860
birth registration, but the father is listed as Richard JONES, which
would be his maternal grandfather.
I am unable to find any GRO listing for a marriage which might be Robert
SMART and Eliza Sophia JONES. Nor is there anything in the IGI.
Given the number of strange answers this lady has given on so many
records (barring the few I just mentioned), I think I'll have to go
looking for a needle in a haystack in order to find her (and the rest of
her family) prior to the 1853 birth and 1855 baptism of her daughter.
The 1841 and 1851 census have yielded some interesting possibilities --
but nothing I can be certain is her or her brother, George.
Her brother George is the same: I can find him from 1861 forwards, but
nothing before.
So, based on the suggestions made, I'll check the following churches in
this order, seeking a marriage between 1845 and 1855:
(1) St. Stephen's
(2) St. Augustine the Less
(3) St. Werburgh's Church
(4) St. Nicholas Church
(5) St. Paul (Portland Square, BRISTOL)
(6) St. Peter's
(7) St. Philip & St. Jacob
And for anyone that missed it, a link to a wonderful map was provided by
Josephine:
