Hi Gwyn

If it was hard to read then I am fairly certain what you were looking at was
actaully Hetty or Etty.

Many thanks to Charani, Polly and Jan for their ideas re the shortened
'versions' of Hester. Hetty or Etty does seem a very good 'substitute'
for 'Betty' especially as I have a note next to my 'transcription'
made at the Taunton RO last year that the PR was very difficult to
read.

Charani's suggestion that if there was more than one Hester in the
family use of the second name might have caused confusion is a very
good reminder too. I have seen this in other lines and it has thrown
me off the sent for months before now!

Thank you all for your interest and help.

Best wishes, Gwyn
