Dear Genners,
I want to thank Eve Richardson for responding so ably to Lori
regarding The Jewish Victorian or "TJV" as we call it.Yes, it is our
bible and mine sits right here next to my laptop. I guess I have to
state the usual disclaimer in not having any vested interest, but I
will say that Doreen Berger is my cousin, well, truth be told, she is
really married to David Berger, who is my 2nd cousin once removed!
The book came out in time for the 1999 International Conference at
Salt Lake City.
Doreen has been hard at work on another volume covering the decade
earlier (1861-1870). And yes, there has been a lot of interest in a
volume encompassing 1880-1890. we shall have to wait and see.
Whilst the book does tend to predominate in the area of births,
marriages and deaths, there are many other items listed that it makes
fascinating reading just to open it at any page.
What genners can do to help Doreen is to alert any library which has
a collection of the Jewish Chronicle that such a publication is
available. That it would be of enormous benefit for anyone studying
the newspaper, because there is no index available for the Jewish
Chronicle.
Thank you all for allowing me to give voice to an excellent work.
