Are you sure he's naturalised? Just because it says so on the census doesn't
necessarily mean it was *true*. I have people in Leeds in 1901 saying NBS
when they didn't naturalise till 1904.
Maybe he naturalised outside the coverage dates.
Finally, maybe the spelling of the surname was different on the papers?
