David responded to my orignal message saying that he found "an item in a
University of
Glasgow library catalogue." More and more universities, musems, archives
etc. are posting catalogues of their holdings and it is very surprising can
turn up. I have found family trees; photos of family members, associated
buildings, and scientific instruments made by or pictures painted by family;
articles about or written by family members; and whole collections of family
papers.
Amongst other little tidbits: I had a brief note on one family tree
(Protestant family from York) that a certain gr gr aunt was a family "black
sheep", but there was no indication of why she was an outcast. I found out
through the usual records what her husband's name was. As it was a little
unusual, on a whim I googled it and turned up information about a Catholic
group in York of which was listed as a member. Bingo ! The aunt had married
"out" !
Eve - who loves googling a whole lot more than organising the resulting data
in a database ! (where's a secretary when you need 'em ?)
