David,
A few tips:-
Make sure the trains are running to Kew on the District line (Green
coloured). Going by car, I think they now charge for parking and do not get
stuck in the rush hours on the North and South Circular roads.
It is worth ordering to save your time.
Laptops are welcome and staff are very helpful. Café is expensive especially
dollars to pounds.
Plashet and West Ham need a lot of notice unless hearing an American accent
and you state you are coming especially for this visit they may be helpful.
At Willesden the caretaker is extremely helpful but it is a walk from the
subway station. Obviously the cemeteries are closed Friday afternoon and
Saturday.
The stones should still be legible dependant on where they are situated
against the inclement weather. If they were poor do not be surprised if
there are no stones.
Regards, David Liss

Hi folks,
I'm coming to London on Friday, and planning to visit some graves and
Kew. A couple of questions:
At Kew, I'm mostly looking for naturalization records - I've ordered a
few online, but this was expensive, and for my Cohen's and Levy's, I
have to search through quite a lot in the hope of finding 'my' family. I
pre-registered online with Kew today. So my questions:
- Is it worth pre-ordering documents online to be ready when I get
there?
- can you take a laptop into Kew, so I can look at my records and think
about what documents to ask for when I'm there, check documents against
my records, etc? I don't see any mention of it on the website.
- any other tips for first timers?
I've also used the United Synagogue site to locate some graves, at
Plashet, West Ham, and Willesden. Plashet and West Ham are 'by
appointment' only - any experience with this? Does it need a lot of
notice?
Any how likely is it that graves from 1880-1905 will be legible (these
were not wealthy people!)
Thanks,
David Levy
