Firstly, many thanks for the answers confirming that Elizabeth Myers was Jewish.

"Have you tried to trace him on the Ellis Island records to see where
his last address was and to whom he was going and their address. I
always get a lot of information that way" Louise

Louise, I did find Hyman Kaplan on the Ellis Island website, he
travelled from Southampton in August 1903. His last residence is
simply given as London. He had been living in Hull with his parents
from around 1880, was there in 1901 census and his & Maria's children
were born in Hull (Scullcoates) in December 1902. Intrigued by how
they would have met, he a tailor living with mum & dad age 30 in Hull
and she a 'photo artiste' living with her parents, father a
photographer in London.

In December 1914 Hyman's uncle Benjamin Kaplan, his wife Sarah and
daughter Etty/Esther leave Liverpool for New York and give Hyman as
the person they are going to in NY. Interestingly, the passenger list
for them is much more detailed, perhaps because it's wartime? For
instance they have to give a contact back in UK and are described
physically.

Hyman, incidentally, gave his contact in NY as "as cousin Jacob
Markson (or something like Markson)living at 738 St Ann's Avenue, NY"
but I've not been able to link this person to the family.
Thanks to all
Danielle
