To all listers... what an exceptionally informative "digest" today's
"edition" (or collection of email) #204 was! It brought to light, once
more, what a staggering number of BHC there were and what an enormous
number of descendants they have! Now add the "new knowledge" that some
of their descendants might of been a part of the "Orphan Train" movement
across the USA..
Each individual with a story and now the descendants , each with a
story and / or a quest.
My maternal grandfather, Wm Farrant, age 8, arrived in Halifax N.S.
March 1892, aboard the S.S. Cartheginian, along with his brother
Geo.Hicks Farrant, born 1891 with a group of over 200 boys from
Barnardo's in London. They had been at a home in Jersey named
Teighmore, for 3 yrs. after being left at the sheltering home by their
mother.
My grandfather always celebrated his birthday in July and I believe it
was also July 1st.. until he sent for his birth certificate sometime in
the 1950s.. and then found out he was born Oct. 29, 1883. Now I have
some sort of explanation for that July date.. thanks!
*Excerpt from the letter from Colleen True..
(snip) "She went by the birthdate of July 1, 1879, I'm wondering if she
didn't know her birth date and since July 1 is Canada Day or Dominion
Day as it was known then, maybe she just adopted this day as her
birthday."
