The March 2004 issue of the Journal of Glasgow & West of Scotland Family
History Society has a good article by Peggy Jefferson of Ottawa, Canada.
Her grandmother, Jane Rafferty, was sent with a sister, Agnes, to Canada on
the S.S. Sarmation in May of 1892. Both sisters had had to be placed in The
Orphan Homes of Scotland at Bridge of Weir. Once in Canada, they went first
to Brockville, Ontario; then were placed in farms in Shawville, Quebec.
(Jane later married James Cotter, a home boy.)
