Hi Isobel,

Thank you very much for this look-up !

The father of the CORKILL children was born on the Isle of Man in 1827, and
came from a large family. At least one of his brothers moved to Liverpool
around the same time he did ! (1850's at his marriage) The CORKILL
children were born in Liverpool between 1860 and 1871, but, after their
mother's death, they seem to have gone to live with their uncle and aunt in
Liverpool - as their father was a Master Mariner who was often away at sea !
I heard it was their uncle who brought them to the Liverpool Sheltering
Homes when it opened in 1873 - he had too many children of his own ! The
children had 2 older brothers who remained in Liverpool, and might have also
become mariners or fishermen like their father, Evan CORKILL.

If this Robert CORKILL was born around 1880, he was slightly younger than
the Robert who came to Nova Scotia in 1874 at Age 3. But, they very
easily could have been first-cousins !

Because my great-grandparents came over in the 1870's, and it is now around
130 years later, it's almost impossible to find out whether the CORKILL's
in Nova Scotia kept in contact with their father, their uncle, and their
cousins back in Liverpool ! And, moreso, with their cousins on the Isle
of Man ! And, that is somewhat frustrating to me ! And, finding they
might have had a cousin coming to PA / USA around the time they were raising
their children in either NS or MA, makes me wonder all the more -- whether
they kept in touch with their family back in England and the Isle of Man !

Enjoy your day !

P.S. I wish I could request the records of the siblings ! But, both
Julia and Esther had children and descendants ! And, just like Ron's
queries about a child who lived with his great-grandparents ..... it
would be interesting to find out if "Barnardo's" or whichever agency handled
the records allowed people with an interest in the records to see the
records -- if the child had "no" descendants !

I think someone suggested that I try this several months ago, but I have
not had time to e-mail Barnardo's !
