I am searching for information on my ggggrandparents. They are WILLIAM AND
CATHERINE WHITE BROWN. Family history written by William Crippen Brown reads,
"In the early part of the nineteenth century two Puritan families, The Browns
and the Whites migrated from Massachusetts to the State of Vermont. William
Brown married a daughter of the White family. In 1833 a son Lewis White Brown
was born. The family moved to Ogdensburg, New York about 1845 .”
Below is modified family register:
1. William BROWN.
William married Catherine WHITE.
They had the following children:
2 i. Lewis White (1833-1911)
3 ii. Clark
2. Lewis White BROWN. Occupation: Carriage maker
Born 21 Jul 1833, Syracuse, Jefferson County, NY
On 24 Oct 1855 Lewis White married Candace STREETER, daughter of Amos Snow
STREETER & Anna FOSTER, in Antwerp, Jefferson County, NY.
They had the following children:
4 i. Arthur Clark (1859-1943)
5 ii. Ward A (1873-1942)
6 iii. Leon (1859-) Name appears on census of 1860 but this is
probably Arthur whose name does not appear on that census
Residences: Richville, De Kalb Township, New York in 1860 Census
Marriage, Discharge Certificate, Pension Application all list DeKalb, St.
Lawrence County, New York as his place of residence, June 1865.
3. Clark BROWN.
Only reference is in family history stating he joined the Grand Army along
with Arthur to fight in the Civil War. No mention of Clark in the same unit:
"(Arthur) Enlisted 8/7/1862 A. Co. 142nd Inf. Reg. NY" There is a William
listed in that unit.
4. Arthur Clark BROWN. Occupation: Farmer.
Born 4 April 1859, Coopers Falls, St. Lawrence County, NY
On 30 Jun 1884 Arthur Clark was 25 married Evelyn (Eva) May CRIPPEN, daughter
of William C. CRIPPEN & Martha Susan AMSDEN, in Coopers Falls, NY.
They had the following children (all born in Michigan):
i. Lewis White (1886-1956)
ii. William Crippen (1887-1973)
iii. Leon Arthur (1888-1969)
iv. Erwin Wardell (1890-1953)
v. Harold (1894-1957)
5. Ward A BROWN.
Born 26 July 1873, Worth Township, Sanilac County, Michigan
On 26 Sep 1894 Ward A. married Edna B. McKENZIE.
They had the following children:
i. Candace Mary (1895-)
ii. Henry White (1897-)
iii. Ward (1899-1899)
iv. Winthrop Roy (1901-1963)
v. Julia (1903-1903)
vi. Emery H. (1904-)
vii. Alice Dollena (1906-1906)
viii. Eva M. (1908-)
ix. Verna (1910-)
x. UNNAMED (1912-1912)
xi. Loran (1914-)
xii. Wallace (1917-)
xiii. Charles (1920-)
Anyone familiar with this family? Any and all information would be much
appreciated. I am descended from Arthur Clark Brown and have lots of
information on that line, as well as some on the Ward Brown line. My primary
interest is to identify William and Catherine and their ancestors, but would
also be interested in siblings of Arthur, if any.
Thanks for your time and consideration!
