Hi Karen, We helped to start this project some four years ago because we
were at a dead end with our ancestor, John ROSE, but thought that we knew his
lineage. Many claimed
Scottish and the Robert ROSE of Branford, CT, but we turned out to be from
the Robert
ROSE of Long Island, Suffolk County, New York group and didn't match up with
any other group. It would be great to find male descendants of all known
and suspected BROWN sons
as this test isn't GOOD except for the direct male lineage. Since I do NOT
have a BROWN
surname, there is NO NEED to take the test but if we can get some males
identified who are willing to participate, I would suggest contributions from
those of us who can't be tested. We
have done this in our ROSE group. Also, there should be descendants from
several male family members to verify. I also suggest going the 25 Marker
Route because it may reveal
more valid and traceable data. One cannot determine the actual lineage but
it will give you
ideas for areas to search of information. For example, I have seen data
stating that Volentine Brown, Jr., was born in Surry County, Virginia, but I
seriously doubt this. He was possibly born in Surry County, NC, but I'm NOT
certain that this info is factual. Some say he is the son of Volentine, Sr.,
but I AM NOT CERTAIN that this is correct. I DO BELIEVE he at least shares a
common Ancestor with Volentine, Senior, if he is NOT a son. DNA testing will
show this relationship and quite possibly, how strong that relationship is.
This is about all
we can expect from the DNA testing but at least it will confirm/reject the
notion that Volentine, Sr, and who we call Volentine, Jr, were related in some
way. My suggestion is to try and find at least ONE descendant from each son
that Volentine, Sr, had and also sons of Volentine, Jr, and the other
suspected son. If these DNA samples all match, then we will know that the two
suspected sons of Volentine, Sr., are closely related to him in some way
and quite possibly as a son or grandson. Let me know what response you
have. By the way, David BROWN is our DNA Project Manager for the ROSE group but
he is NOT of our
BROWN group that I am aware of. DNA testing will give us that answer.
