Hi BROWN Researchers,

Mr. William Yates' email of Dec 7th. regarding BROWNS in Illinois really got
my attention because of the widespread use of the uncommon given name
"CLARINDA" in the BROWN family.

My GG-Grandmother (Maternal) was Mahala BROWN SPERRY, b. Feb 1849, in KY,
probably Lawrence CO. Both of her parents were born in PA, but I don't know
where. Mahala's oldest sister was named CLARINDA. And further, Mahalas first
born daughter was named CLARINDA SPERRY! So, I have two CLARINDA's in my
family, both derived from the BROWN family association.

There was a definite reason for this infatuation with the name CLARINDA in
the BROWN family! Somewhere, sometime, a CLARINDA in the BROWN family made an
enormous, lasting and positive impression on the rest of the immediate family
as well as the descendants! I find it extremely interesting that Mr. Yates
GG- Grandmother's name is alwo CLARINDA BROWN and also that she was from PA,
the same state as my CLARINDA's parents! There has just got to be a
connection.

Herewith my BROWN family line:

Richard BROWN, b. Abt 1815, in PA, m. Abt 1839, Catharine/Katherine (UNKNOWN),
b. Abt 1822, in PA. I am seeking their birthdates/locations and marriage
date/location. I am also seeking Catharine/Katherine's family name.

Richard and Catharine/Katherine had children as follows:

Clarinda BROWN, b. 1840 in Wythe CO, VA, d. Sep 18, 1859, in Durbins Creek,
Lawrence CO, KY.

John BROWN, b. Abt 1842, in PA. (No additional info)

Ruhanna BROWN, b. Abt 1846, in VA, probably Wythe CO. (No additional info)

Mahala BROWN, b. Feb 1849, in KY, probably Lawrence CO, d. Oct 1, 1922, in
Bernie, Parsner Creek, Lincoln CO, WV, m. James Harvey SPERRY, on Mar 24,
1867, in Lawrence CO, KY. Mahala and James' first child was a daughter named
CLARINDA SPERRY, b. Abt 1868, in Boyd CO, KY.

Some additional facts:
This Richard BROWN family appears in Lawrence CO, KY, census of 1850.
Both Richard and Katherine listed as born in PA.
Richard is listed as a gunsmith.

This family, less CLARINDA, who had died in 1849, appears in Boyd CO, KY,
census of 1860, living in Catlettsburg.
Both Richard and Catharine listed as born in PA.
Richard is listed as a farmer.

The above represents the total knowledge I have about this BROWN family and I
would certainly be most greatful for any additional information on any member
of the family. I have lots of info on the James Harvey SPERRY family and am
willing to exchange!
