While researching my BROWN line, I came across refrences to John Brown of
Priesthill know as "Christian Carrier", martyr covenanter, was shot in 1685
by Graham of Claverhouse. (see full text below)

I have search encyclopedias and the web but have been unable to find further
reference to this. Has anyone else heard of this. Where can I find out
more than I have quoted below.

The 20th Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans, Vol. 9, p.99
RIDDLE, Matthew Brown, educator, was born in Pittsburg, Pa., Oct. 17, 1836;
son of David Hunter (q.v.) and Elizabeth Blaine (Brown) Riddle; grandson of
the Rev. Matthew (q.v.) and Mary (Blaine) Brown; great-grandson of Matthew
Brown, a Revolutionary soldier, and great2–grandson of John Brown, whose
father, John Brown of Priesthill, Scotland, the martyr covenanter, known as
the "Christian Carrier," was shot in 1685 by Graham of Claverhouse, at
Priesthill, in the presence of his wife and little son, John.

GILMORE, James Roberts, author, was born in Boston, Mass., Sept. 10, 1822;
son of Turner Fales and Mary A. (Roberts) Gilmore; grandson of William
Gilmore; and a descendant of John Brown, the Christian Carrier, who was
murdered by Claverhouse, as is related by Sir Walter Scott.
