The death, at an advanced age, of a pioneer resident of this section became
known this week.
Mrs. Candace Matilda Brown,80, who came to Illinois to California across the
plains with her parents in a covered wagon at the age of 7, died on May 11 in
the home of her son, Clarence, on Hat Creek.
She conducted a hotel at Fall River Mills for many years. She is survived by
five daughters Mrs. F.A. Reiser of Sacramento; Mrs. E.C. Guill of Klamath
Falls; Mrs. W.L. Crowe, and Mrs. F.L. Wheldon of Pasadena, and Mrs W.R. Hudson
of Yreka; and three sons Benjamin Brown of Sacramento; and Clarence and Fay
Brown of Hat Creek. Funeral services were held Friday in Burney, where
internment was made.
