William BROWNING (1796- ) m. Eliza A. AVERILL (ca. 1808- ) in 1826 and
lived in what is now the historic district of Gales Ferry, Ledyard, New London
County, CT. William owned and operated the ferry from 1822-1856 and also ran
at least one store on the Upper Wharf at Gales Ferry. He was a member of the
Stonington, CT BROWNINGs who originally came from Portsmouth, RI according to
Wheeler's History of Stonington, CT. Eliza is said to be the daughter of
Jabez AVERILL. I would be interested in any info on these families.
