BJ Williams,
What a joy to get your information. Even though the name of
Samuel BROYLES wasn't found..it is extremely great to realize that you
took the time to check it out....and to share the source of your
research into Black members of the SC Anderson County community.
'Rooters are truly special people.
I'm not sure if i shared with you my other BROYLES * SC Anderson Co
knowledge. Here is what I have uncovered so far:
Subject: Broyles * SC Anderson County
All,
We may have found Robert BROYLES mother. In
reviewing the 1870 SC Anderson County census [film
#1482] we find that there are three Black head of
households living in Broadaway Township.
* Mary age 75 born VA page 421
* Robert age 45 born SC page 420
* Paul age 14 born SC page 421
Speculation is that Mary (grandmother), Robert (son),
and Paul (grandson) are all from the same family. We
already knew about Paul & Robert. Mary is a new
finding!! If so, it would push our roots back to her birth
in 1795. It's been recommended to me that I find an
1860 slave census to see if there were any slave
owners named BROYLES in Anderson County who
owned slaves who's ages matched Robert, Mary,
Malinda, and so forth. Another suggestion is that I
find out if there were any BROYLES surname folks
living in Virginia prior to Robert's birth in 1825. We
know Mary was born in Virginia...but was removed or
sold to SC before Robert's birth about 1825.
Well...what do you think??
