Hello Steve. If you can dig it out, I would like to have the name of the
"suspected" father of Allen R. BROYLES. I already had him in my database,
but don't have his father's name.

Allen is believed to be the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Broyles, daughter
of Peter Broyles of Monroe Co., WV. Elizabeth married Robert Rains shortly
after the birth of Allen. Allen was raised as a Rains but retained the name
Broyles. At Robert's death in 1833 "Allen Broyles and Elizabeth Reins his
mother" sell their share of some land in Monroe Co. along with other heirs.
A possible clue to the identity of Allen's father is that Isabel Dunn gives
permission for "her son" Allen Broyles's marriage in 1836. The surname Rains
was crossed out and the name Broyles was put in, showing that there was
confusion on his name. What's strange about this is that Allen was in his
30's at the time and therefore not a minor who needed permission to
marry. In any case, I suspect (and that is all-- suspect) that Isabel's
husband was Allen's father. I have his name somewhere in my pile of stuff,
and can get fish it out if anyone is interested.
