I am new to this list, and am researching Charles STRANGE and his wife
Susanna COMPTON who were married 3 Sept 1831 in Langley Marish. Both were
listed as being residents of the parish at the time of their marriage.
Soon thereafter, they moved to High Wycombe, where Charles appears in the
1839 directory as a watchmaker in Queen's Square.

Charles was born 26 June 1805, place unknown. He died between 1874 and
1881, and was buried in Hughenden churchyard.

Susanna was born 30 March 1811 in Henley, Oxfordshire. Her parents were
William and Elizabeth (Hilliard) Compton. Susanna had a brother, William,
date and place of birth unknown, who married Elizabeth ______, and had
several children born in London in the 1830's.

Charles and Susanna's children were:

Susanna, b. 10 Nov 1832, d. before 1998, buried Hughenden.

Charles Jr, b. 27 July 1834, d. before 1874, buried Hughenden. Family
tradition says he died in India.

Thomas, b. 26 Aug 1836, d. between 1856 and 1874, buried Hughenden.

Mary Anne, b. 26 Aug 1840, m. Hughenden 22 March 1862 Sidney Smith, had
daughter Mary Sophia, b. 1863 High Wycombe, and son Sidney, b. 1864
London. Mary Sophia married _____ Stutchberg, and went to Australia.

Benjamin, b. 23 Feb 1843, went to America, married 31 Dec 1873, New York
City, Ida Jane Lockhart. d. 24 March 1898, New York City.

I would appreciate any tips on how to proceed with this family. If anyone
has access to the 1851, 1861 or 1871 census for High Wycombe, and would be
willing to lookup where Charles Sr. was born, I would be extremely
greatful. I seem to have reached a dead end with Susanna, as her parents
were not married in Henley where she was baptised, nor were they married
in the neighboring parishes in Oxfordshire or Berkshire, nor can I find
any trace of her brother William's baptism. Any suggestions on how to
proceed with her would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help,
Heather Olsen
