Missed original post and am assuming that it is pricker rather than picker.
The parchment used in books and documents from mediƦval monastic scriptoria
was pricked - small pin-holes at regular intervals down each side of the
page then connected across the page to make near invisible lines on which to
write.
The designs of the ornate initial letters and border decoration might also
be so pricked out.
If this Bucks, IIRC might the designs of lacework be pricked out on
parchment then spread out over the cushion which held the bobbins?
