Subject: [BULL-L] Australian Analogue Mobile System

Firstly, my apologies to all those who live outside Australia, please trash
this message.

To all Australians who use the current Analogue System

As you probably know, the previous Labour government did a deal with
Vocaphone for the Analogue system which Telstra runs, to be phased out in
the year 2000.

The other day I heard an interview on the radio, where an ammendment to the
Act or what ever which if passed would retain the analogue system beyond
2000, was currently being debated in Parliament.

The interviewee was advocating that current users should contact their
local federal MP's, senators etc., urging them to support the ammendment.

As you probably know there is a major cost advanctage in using the analogue
system, such as the minimum cost plan is $10 per month as against $20 for
the digital system, and if one uses the mobile system effectively for
emergencies only this can be a large saving, $120 per year against $240 per
year.

As I understand it the Minister for Communications is Senator Alston email
address is <>

and the oppostion Spokeman is Senator Chris Schacht email address is
<>

I suggest those who wish to support the retention of the Analogue system
should sent emails to both addresses.
