I checked all of my Washington County, VA books, here's what I could find:

August Co., VA 1787 Census - Bull, Samuel Sr. and Benony Griffen listed
(remember Augusta Co. if where many people came from who went to Washington
Co., VA - also Washington Co., used to be Fincastle Co.)

Washington Co., VA 1787 Census - no Bull's or Griffin's listed

Washington Co. Marriages - only Mary Bull listed; Griffin's listed:
Ezia Griffin to Fanna Musick 3 Jan 1799
Herbert Griffin to Sally Troxell 18 Jun 1829
Israel Griffin to Ann Miller 16 Dec 1806
Solloman Griffin to Mary Bull 15 Jan 1797
(Any chance that Ezia and Soloman are brothers? - same time period!)

1830 Washinton Co., census - Bull, John and Griffen, Robert listed

1840 Washinton Co., census - Griffin, Barton and no Bull's

And the best for last .............
Militia of Washington Co., VA - no Bull's listed, but ......
Griffin, Ezra
" , Palmer
" , Permor (Persnor)
" , SOLOMAN
" , Zacheus
