Contact the National Archives http://www.archives.gov to obtain a copy of his military records. You'll need his social security number. The Social Security Death Index (SSDI) from www.rootsweb.com has three Frederick Bulls born in or around 1897. You can also order a copy of his social security application which is usually handwritten by the applicant.
Look for Irene (if you have not done so already) and trace from her married name.
Rootsweb also has FreeBMD which is birth-marriage-death records from Britian. There is no Frederick G. Bull shown as born in 1897 however there are Frederick's in the 1895 birth listings: birth registered March 1895 Paddington, June 1895 Tetbury, September 1895 Lambeth, March 1896 Islington, and September 1896 in Wells. There are two Irene Bulls listed for June 1897 and June 1898.
Search Ellis Island www.ellisisland.org for the ship in which they traveled to the States. Ellis Island now offers copies of the ship manifest which offers additional info. Olive Tree Genealogy www.olivetreegenealogy.com has passenger records for arrivals other than Ellis Island. Look at Naturalization records also, the 1920 census shows Frederick became a US citizen in 1917.
Your local Family Research Center is also a very good source or visit on line at www.familyseach.org If you are in or around Boston, visit the library and review City Directories and other genealogy records.
Do you know Frederick and Irene's parents names? I also have Bull family from England - Devon and Somerset in my case.
Good luck with your search.
S. Palmer
