This is where I am having my father's DNA tested to start establishing a
Bunker DNA line.

A good website for information about DNA testing for genealogical purposes
is
http:\\freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~allpoms/genetics.html> It gives
information and some other links to information and research.

As soon as I get the results of my father's test, I will write an article
for the Banner giving all the details. We have pretty good sources for my
father's descent from James Bunker of Dover. If we can get DNA results from
some Nantucket and Charleston branch descendants too we will be able to use
them to compare. We may be able to determine whether all three American
branches are descended from Roger of Tingrith. Also, the unconnected
Bunkers may be able to determine which branch they belong to. The only
testing I had done was on the Y chromosome which is passed down from father
to son and remains almost identical in each man for about 10,000 years. I
will enter the results in the BFA database and look for connections. I will
not be including these in any pedigrees that are sent out. However, if
someone sends me a query asking if the alleles in their DNA matches with any
Bunker line I will either confirm or deny that. As we build a databank of
these DNA results, we ought to be able to learn a lot more about where to
look to connect the branches or to put ourselves in one distinct branch.
There are also the German Bunkers who may or may not be related to the
English Bunkers. DNA would either confirm or refute this.

I will keep you posted through the list and Banner about what is happening
in this area of research.

Bette
