The New England Historic and Genealogical Society is putting the records of
the 1798 Massachusetts and Maine direct tax list on line. Not all records
have survived and they are just beginning to put them on. So far, In
Hancock Co., Maine there are the following Bunkers mentioned:
v. 1, p. 155,Isaac, occupant/owner Hancock, (no description of property)
v. 1, p. 156, Mark, occupant/owner Hancock, (no description)
v. 1, p. 166, Isaac, occupant, Samuel Nibble owner, Hancock, (no
description)
v. 1, p. 208, Benia, occupant/owner, Sedgwick,100 acres, value $650
v. 1, p. 321, Plymouth Gore, occupant, Jonathan Bunker owner, 114 acres (no
value)
v. 1, p. 323, Plymouth Gore, occupant, Clement Bunker owner, 100 acres (no
value)
v. 6 covers Essex Co., MA. In it there are numerous references to Bunker
Meadows and lots in it. In addition this listing for Daniel Bunker
occupant/owner, Beverly, Essex, 90 perches, value $215, value of all
property owned by this person, $219.
None of these entries indicate that there was a house on the property or any
other building.
