My Great grandfather was Joel Levi BURNETT born aboiut 1848 in Dana, Vermillion County, Indiana. His father was James Francis BURNETT, Sr. and there was a son named James Francis BURNETT, Jr. who was probably born between 1840 and 1845. With the name of Francis as a middle name, he could possibly have been the father of your John Howard BURNETT. I can look for more detailed information after I go off-line.

It's an honor to have been a pall bearer for your great-grandfather. You must come from a long-lived family.
Enoch Burnett & Elizabeth Shearer of Cherokee, North Carolina, had some children who moved to Pope County, Arkansas. James Commodore Burnett (m. Nancy Allen), Hazeltine Burnett (m. Lafayette Pack), and Nancy Burnett (m. another Lafayette Pack related to the first one). I don't know of a John Howard Burnett, but you might want to look into that family anyway, since
they could have been related to your Burnetts.
Enoch Burnett was supposed to be a son of Claiborne Burnett and Mary Malone. They had a very large family and some of Enoch's brothers also went west in the mid-1800s.
