Hi to Diane and other Burnetts interested in a DNA project --
Your BURNETT father's participation would be wonderful and much
appreciated! However, for the purpose of BURNETT genealogy, your son
would not be able to participate, since he has a different surname. In
other words, his Y chromosome (where the surname/bloodline DNA
information is stored) comes from his own father. Your son would be
able to participate in a DNA project of his father's surname.
Here is the bottom line for any BURNETT DNA project (I don't mean it
to sound harsh): 1. ONLY MALES CAN PARTICIPATE.
2. THE MALE MUST HAVE THE BURNETT SURNAME FROM HIS BIOLOGICAL BURNETT
FATHER.
3. NO ADOPTED MALE CAN PARTICIPATE UNLESS HIS BIOLOGICAL FATHER WAS A
"BIOLOGICAL BURNETT."
All the DNA stuff that has come about in the last few years can get
very complicated, and I, for one, don't want to go back to college and
study for a genetics degree!! My idea is to keep the Burnett project as
simple as is possible; although even then, the information can still
pose a challenge to the layperson. I refer interested people to the
"FTDNA" (Family Tree DNA) web site where basic information is given, as
well as more advanced info. You choose how deeply you wish to delve
into the knowledge of the human genome. Family Tree DNA is a reputable
company used by many surname groups on the Rootsweb mailing lists.
The web address is http://www.familytreedna.com
The physical address of the company is
Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.
World Headquarters
1919 North Loop West, Suite 110 Houston, Texas 77008, USA
Phone: (713) 868-1438 Fax: (832) 201-7147
Please remember that the information I have given here is related
ONLY to a Burnett DNA study. Family Tree DNA offers additional DNA
tests for both males and females; however these are UNRELATED to a DNA
SURNAME STUDY.
