I think we have enough interest to start a Burnett surname DNA
project. Thank you! To form a group at FTDNA and be able to get the
group rates, you have to have 2 people who will purchase a DNA test of
their choice NOW. I will buy one for my cousin, and obviously will need
another person willing to purchase. Please let me know if you can do
this ASAP so that we can get things moving. You can pay by debit or
credit card. I will send you the web address of the online order form.
All other interested persons should begin thinking about which
test(s) to order. So that you can be looking over the available tests,
go to http://www.familytreedna.com/description.html for a description of
each one. Remember that group pricing will be cheaper than the costs
listed under "pricing" on the website. You are free to order any test
you wish, but for BURNETT SURNAME DNA TESTING, the best one is the one
that just came out, the Y-DNA59: 59 Markers Test. Our group price for
that one is $269 (Non-group price is $349). Still available is the
Y-DNA37: 37 Markers Test, which is $189 (Non-group price is $259).
There is a 12 Markers test, which was the first one to be used, but it
lacks the matching abilities of the later tests. Please consider using
the 59 Markers, if at all possible. It will tell the most and is able
to match people in fewer generations than the older versions. If your
immediate family has a few cousins, siblings, aunts/uncles, or parents,
you should ask them to chip in to help raise the payment for the
person(s) willing to be tested. This will take the burden of payment
off you. Please remember that it is always more accurate to test more
than one person in each branch of your family, if possible.
Assuming that we get the group formally created at FTDNA, would
anybody be willing to take the position of Group Administrator (the
"contact person" between the lab and the surname DNA group)?
BURNETTS (of any spelling) IN THE UK: You are most welcome to join
this endeavor. We need you, since most of our American Burnett
ancestors came from Scotland, England, Ireland, or Wales. Your input
will help match us with you! If you have already tested at Oxford,
there is a conversion kit available at FTDNA
