John, I also have some Butler's from S.C. that I cannot connect with any of
the big Butler families of that state. My 4th g grandfather was Joel
Butler, b 1785 SC, who md Catharine ? , b 1793 SC. Around 1810 they moved
to Tennessee, ending up in Lincoln Co TN. They and their family lived their
until after 1850, then moved to Hopkins Co KY. They had abt 12 ch,
supposedly all named Bible names. Joel's grandfather (according to a family
tradition), was shipwrecked off the coast of (S)
Carolina. He and one other person were the only survivors. Well, needless
to say, I can't find which family Joel comes from, so that I can do some
more research to try to check on the tradition. Do you know any of the
children of your James Butler?
Connie
