We are looking for our Joseph Butler roots in Virginia. Very few solid
clues...too many Joseph Butlers.

However, we do have an odd name.....Dolathy _____. She was the wife of
Joseph Butler, b. abt 1715 (VA) d.1763 (NC). We don't know if he and Dolathy
were married in VA or NC. He died in Halifax County, NC. They had eight
children: Anna ( ___ Ritter), Elcie, Joseph, Jr. (Elizabeth Lanssdill), Jude
(William Rorie), Mary Ann, Stephen (Blanch ______ ), Susanna, and Samuel
(Mary Womack).

In 1750 he bought 400 acres of land in Cumberland County, VA, from Job
Thomas....DB 1, pg 312. In this deed, he he is referred to as a resident of
Caroline County, VA. His will, dated 1760 written and probated in Halifax
County, NC, instructed that the land be sold. In 1767 his sons, Samuel
Butler and Joseph Butler, Jr., sold the land to Jehu Meador .. DB 4, pg 149.

Does anyone have a female with the given name Dolathy in their tree? If so,
maybe she is our Dolathy ______ Butler. Long struggle with this one.
