Not sure this is the same Samuel Butler. The info I have abt the Samuel H. Butler in my family is: Born in Sangamon County, IL, enlisted in 1861, for three years in the 10th IL. Calvary. Served until Nov.,1864, when he was honorably discharged at San Antonio, TX. He remained there in the employ of the government and married in March, 1870 to Matilda Ann Blair. They had two children, a son and a daughter. He was shot by an assassin, and died in the year 1872 or 73 in Texas.
