Thanks in advance for posting the data. I will take a second look at my Oswego and Lewis County abstracts for your James.
I am a bit confused about which lady was age 27 on your 1870 Cannon family abstract, Julia or Mary? It probably would be much simplier if you just posted the entire abstract.
According to the 1880 census, Mary was born in either 1840 or 1841 as she was enumerated as age 39. If true, then she should have been enumerated as age "29" in 1870. If you could give me the Ancestry image #, I will take a second look - possibly a nine was mistakenly recorded as a seven? Even if not, census ages are not always correct.
Now that we both feel strongly about the Cannon siblings, perhaps these additional clues will lead to finding the parentage of your James. I'm adding your email address and comments to the notes for James. Once I update at Ancestry/Rootsweb, others can contact you directly. I'll alert you if anything else develops.
