Mary, I read about this lady that taught at an Indian school, when looking for Bartlesville, Indian Territory Butlers. Problem is? I did not print the info out.
I could kick myself! The story stuck with me, in part, but not dates/names except for Geo. Armour/Armer/Armor and Roselea is how I seem to remember the name was spelled for her.
She was called a pet name by the Indians out of great respect and went by that more than her own name, and seem to remember the last name Morrison connected to her, that stuck in my mind since I had a friend named Morrison & wondered if it was part of his family. She did remarry and her 2nd husband helped her get another Indian School opened up, against great odds.
The night I was researching, I read the Indian Civil War Pension Scandel papers (600 pages worth) that took place in Ft. Gibson, also was collecting info on any Butler fleeced in the Ft Gibson scandel. Was reading any Indian papers I could get to learn if the scoundrels that filed false papers for Indians and claimed their pension money for them, were charged with fraud and tossed into prison.
Now the names I was searching for were these: Frank Butler; John Butler; Beulah Baker and her mother Kate Baker with a George Miller, and an Indian agent named: Geo. Schroeder from Bartlesville Indian Territory (Oklahoma).
I tried to retrace my research for the past 2 nights trying to locate the pages again. I do have the from your query close by and will post it, if I can locate the info again. I was touched by this lady taking time to care and help those that had been used and abused by White agents in the territory. Neat lady!
You might want to try reservation school history, or check on the Cherokee, Creek or ? Indian sites online for early Indian schools in OK, KS, Arkansas.
I do know it was listed under Indian Territory and not Oklahoma.
I'll keep looking though...
Crystal
