Hi cousins:
My gr-gr-grandfather was Robert St. Clair Butler b.9/1834 in MD. I am trying to find out if he was the son of Ormand F. b. abt 1787 and Elizabeth (Bortle) Butler. In the 1850 census, Ormand(63) and Elizabeth(58) are living in Martinsburg, VA(WV) with thier children Amelia(20), Harriet(18), and Robert(15). There is also a Benjamin(6/12) born in VA who could be a grandchild. Living beside them was their son Ormond H.(28)and Alcinda(24) and their children Alice(2) and Frances M.(6/12). My Robert moved to Piedmont, WV and married Mary Ellen Lutman. His children were Alice Madora(b. 5/31/1859), my gr-grandfather Benjamin F.(b. 9/5/1862), Laura Virginia(b. 9/8/1865) and Annie L.(b. 1867). Robert was a RR engineer. I have a lot of info on them that I can share. In the 1870 census, Ormond H. and Alcinda are living in Baltimore and he is also a RR engineer. His son William also works for the RR. In the 1880 census, there was a Benjamin Butler(29) who was born in VA and lived in Graft!
on, WV. He was also a RR engineer and would be the same age as the Benjamin living with Ornond F. Because of the birth dates being about the same and with them all working for the RR, this would lead me to think that my Robert St. Clair and Ormond F.'s Robert are the same. Does anyone have info about that? Hope to hear soon, Chuck (Charles St. Clair Butler, Jr.)
