I read your posting with interest. My Butler family used to hold family
reunions in Decatur, IL and in fact, now that all my grandmother's
siblings and herself are gone, no one has been holding the reunions. We
are holding the first Butler family reunion in many, many years in
Bluford, Jefferson Co, IL next Sunday, Aug 15.

Our Butler line descends from Bailey Butler b 3 May 1779 King George Co,
CA d 12 Oct 1842 Butlers Landing, Clay/Jackson Co, TN and Adeline
Walker. Their son, Franklin Walker Butler b 11 Mar 1817 d 7 Jun 1881
and wife Lucinda Montgomery left Butlers Landing in 1865 and headed to
southern IL. Lucinda died along the way in Jackson Co, IL after giving
birth to their 12 child. Franklin ended up in Jefferson Co, IL where he
raised the children but never remarried. He is buried in Laird
Cemetery, Jefferson Co, IL.

It's possible your Butler family may be connected with these Butlers
that seem to mostly leave TN in the mid 1850-1860s. See Cass Butler's
website for more info on this branch of Butler family:

>I began my genealogy quest with my mother's beloved grandmother, Helena BUTLER IRISH. The report of death was made by her deaf daughter, so it has more mistakes than any record you can imagine. The questions and answers have no obvious connection. Ultimately, every word was a clue for another part of the puzzle. A genealogy version of the old Johnny Carson routine on the Tonight Show. I found Helena's maternal line, but her father's remains elusive.
