One solution is to use only one Research Log File Name. I got confused
using multiple names and simply went to one called Master Dataset. Then I
put the name of the actual folder that I have stuff filed in the Doc File
field. Since I only have one lineage linked database, but file things in a
variety of ways (mostly by couple, but there are some variations for census
records, copies of books that apply to multiple families, etc.), this seemed
to work for me. I just didn't see the need to create a bunch of different
Research Log File Names.

Wayne,
It is possible to have duplicate Extract Numbers in Bygones, but I can't for
the life of me think of why one would WANT that. There are other was to
group Extracts more effectively. Would you want two people in your genealogy
database to have the same ID number?
One of the basic operating premises of Bygones is that each Extract is
uniquely identifiable by a combination of a Research Log File Name and a
sequential extract number for that file. It is so important, that there is a
utility to check for such occurrences. Go to the form selection list at the
top of the gray panel on the left side of an extract and drop the list down.
Near the bottom is a selection called User's Guide and Preferences. Select
it and notice the buttons at the top of the page.
Check database file for duplicate combinations of: Log File + Extract No.,
Log File + Doc. No., and Doc File + Doc No.
Regards,
Paul

extracts?
I suspect after reading the manual and reading the tutorials that the
answer to this question is no. I would be delighted to find out it is
possible.
Why do I want to do such a thing? I file all my information into
separate file folders for each person in my genealogy database.
Incidentally, I use GEDitCOM which is the best of its type of software
I know of. That works fine for information on individual events. For
events recorded for multiple purposes (think census as the most
common), I file those together in the particular census year folder.
The source is put into GEDitCOM for each individual in the
house/dwelling unit.
The only way I see to get a separate extract for each individual in
Bygones is to create a new extract - but that gives each one a
different number besides being a lot of work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Wayne
