jeez, you're really wound up about this one. must be the first time
you've been shafted by a computer co :) get used to it because i
learned along time ago that tech support sux, no matter where it comes
from. these companies don't hire "experts" to answer your questions,
they hire anyone as cheap as they can & give them a book or computer
database to answer from. many a time i have known more about computers
than the person who was trying to answer my questions & have been put
on hold while they went to ask someone else.
and i don't rely on that zip file for backup. i back up data to zips,
floppies (if it fits) & also to cd's. i'm really sorry that you had to
repeat so much work but you learned the hard way. as jeff said, backup
everything in multiple copies.
computers are great & make it extremely easy to sort & maintain data
but they are machines & may fail at any moment. anyone who doesn't
realize it from the start is asking for trouble. as for software, no
company that i know of has been bug free & it is IMPOSSIBLE for any
vendor to check compatibility with every other program or system in
existence before being released to the general public. the real answer
you should be asking parsons for is: if chuck is running 6.0 & has no
problems whatsoever then what could be causing the codebase error in
my version of 6.0?
out of curiosity, did you re-install your old version & try to open
the backups?
another tip for new users: there are newsgroups for every subject & a
good place to research before you spend you hard earned money on junk.
i spent 4 months reading about problems before i purchased a cd
recorder. results: no coasters yet :)
Have a good one,
Chuck
