Subject: [BS-L] Slavery issues

I didn't mean to imply that slavery was a southern monopoly, in fact a
main topic in the Lincoln Douglas debates was whether states could come
in as free or slave states., Slavery in the northern states was slowly
dying out, as industry replaced the "need" for them
Facts show that many of the northern states as late as 1835 were "legal"
slave states. and only when the war was immanent did the practice come
completely to a halt, at least officially.
Slavery was more of an issue after the war began than before.
