The West was still considered a little bit wild even after 1900, even where
there were cars. The idea of danger and excitement, even from NA, was one
that took a long time to die. The cowboys were still there, just like there
are today, though fewer today. It was just supposed to be an idyllic
lifestyle, at least for a man. The cowboys had their horses, maybe a dog,
their guns, and a lot of freedom. And the movies always had the good guy/bad
guy stories we all seem to like and an occasional girl thrown into the plot,
for those who like a romantic moment in a movie. John Wayne and ... O'Hara..
Katherine? They played the same parts over and over, it seems, with little
variation.
My dad is a big John Wayne fan. When I was a kid, I was too. But, now, I
think he and his friends never quite grew up. Lots of drinking and smoking
and 'friendly fights'. They seemed to like each others' compamy more than
their wives' company. I guess the little ladies were just supposed to stay
home while the boys went out and played.

I remember watching Roy and the boys on TV in the 50's when I was a kid.
The setting wasn't in the 1800's. They had radio too.

I had problems with the Roy Rogers TV show, How come everyone was on
horse
back, like 1800s, and Pat had a Willys Jeep?
