Family legend states that my 2 gr-grandfather James Clampitt murdered a
carpet bagger. There is circumstantial evidence which might lead one to believe
this may be true:
1.) He fled KS leaving wife and children behind; his wife Emily Bowman
Clampitt remarried not bothering to get a divorce (she might qualify me as well).
2.) We find him in a MI penitentiary for a couple of years according to his
Civil War pension papers; I'm not sure how to find out why he was in jail.

I had a 2 gr-grandmother Maggie A. Feland Henderson who was a "dope eater".
Have an article that she died from an overdose. Her husband and my 2 gr
grandfather Robert Henderson was court martialed for disturbing the peace during
the Civil War, but was initially accused of attempted murder. He was
demoted from Corporal to Private. I have papers to prove.

"Once, on this earth, on this familiar spot of ground, walked other men and
women, as actual as we are today, thinking their own thoughts, swayed by
their own passions, but now all are gone, one generation vanishing after another,
gone as utterly as we ourselves shall shortly be gone like ghosts at
cockcrow." -~ G. M. Trevelyan
